A poor man who was wise was found in it, and he saved the city by his wisdom, but no one remembered that poor man.

One day as I was observing how wisdom fares on this earth, I saw something that made me sit up and take notice. There was a small town with only a few people in it. A strong king came and mounted an attack, building trenches and attack posts around it. There was a poor but wise man in that town whose wisdom saved the town, but he was promptly forgotten. (He was only a poor man, after all.)
But a poor, wise man was found there, and he himself in his wisdom delivered the city, but no one remembered that poor man.
A poor, wise person was found in that town. He saved the town using his wisdom. But no one remembered that poor person.
But in the city lived a man who, though poor, was wise, and he delivered it through his wisdom. Yet no one remembered this poor man.
But there was found in it a poor wise man, and he saved the city by his wisdom. Yet no one remembered that poor man.

But one man, who was very poor but very wise, rallied the villagers and managed to drive the army away. (The village remains to this day, but no one remembers the name of that one wise man who saved the village.)
Now a poor wise man was found in it, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
And a poor man and a wise was found therein; and he delivered the city by his wisdom, and no man bethought afterward on that poor man. (And a poor but wise man was found there; and he saved the city by his wisdom, but afterward no one thought much about that poor man.)
and there hath been found in it a poor wise man, and he hath delivered the city by his wisdom, and men have not remembered that poor man!
